With the popularity of organic products arising, it has brought up a lot of concern on whether or not the products are worth buying. “Organic” means that a food is grown without the aid of pesticides or fertilizers. It’s hard to walk into a grocery store and not want to buy the food that looks good but are neither organic nor healthy for you. Although many people cannot tell the difference, there are multiple pros and cons between organic and nonorganic. There are significant differences between organic and processed foods, especially when considering agriculture. There are many benefits of eating organic foods. However, most people believe the main reason is because of the way these foods are grown. They are grown on smaller farms with more personal care. The organic farmers use natural soils to get rid of the weeds without using sprays, and they use insects and birds to get rid of the pests and diseases. They also use manure. Using natural resources to grow foods prevents us from eating chemicals and in many cases unnaturally added hormones. Organic foods have more zinc, iron and vitamins than company-processed foods do not. They can help reduce one’s risk for cancer because weed, insect, and mold-killing chemicals have been linked to the cause of most cancers(Mayo Clinic Staff 1-2). The ways these foods are grown also helps our environment by creating less pollution and by giving us healthy foods that provide us with the natural vitamins our bodies need. Although organic foods can be very pricy, they do live up to the standards of helping us be healthier. The prices for organic foods are more expensive than non-organic due to all the time and effort small farmers take to make sure people can have the healthy foods they deserve. Non-organic or company processed foods are generally more affordable and there are more varieties as well.
