Lately, being healthy has been more important than ever. Everybody does yoga, Pilates, goes to the gym. They eat healthy food, organic food, and whole food. Basically what our grandparents used to eat and call food. So Media has to be one step ahead now. And who in the audience is more likely to be influenced? Women. Women’s Health was published by Rodale Inc., an American publisher of health and wellness magazine. The magazine was created in 2005 by a former editor at Men’s Health (created in 1987) named Bill Stump. He tested the market with the first issue and got within a year 750.000 readers. The trust Rodale Inc. owns several magazines, one for each member of the family. These are: Bicycling, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Children health, Organic Garden, Runner’s World and a few others. Also the site of Rodale was launched on April 22nd 2009, on Earth’s day, with the tag line “where health meets green” Women’s health is published 10 times a year in the United States and has 13 international editions spanning 25 countries. It reaches more than 8 million readers globally according to Also it has issues in Australia (Women’s Health Australia) and in Thailand (Women’s Health Thailand). In 2005 they partnered with the producer of the NBC television show The Biggest Loser and wrote different books, also about health, nutrition, fitness, and cuisine. This was a big hit since The Biggest Loser was televised. Shape magazine is older than Women’s Health. It started in 1981 and was published by Weider Publications, lately being purchased by American Media in 2002. It became easily the #1 women’s fitness magazine at the time it was published. The trust, American Media, has other publications concerning health, too. Theser are Men’s Fitness, Muscle Fitness, Muscle Fitness hers, and a few others.
