General Purpose: To Persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to not eat fast food. Thesis Statement: Today I’m going to convince you to stop eating out; for starters fast food is not health, and it can save you a lot of money by not consuming this quick and easy, cheap food.
I. They’re everywhere; you can find one at every major street corner almost.
A. One in four people in America visit fast food restaurants every day.
1. There are 160,000 fast food restaurants in America and 50 million Americans get served daily. 2. The annual revenue of this industry is 110 billion dollars!
B. 5.6% of the average americans income goes to fast food. I. They’re everywhere; you can find one at every major street corner almost.
II. Fast food is simply tasty, ready-cooked meals packed to go. A. It’s not so much the calories in fast food that’s damaging to your health and waistline it’s the chemical additives such as aspartame and MSG (monosodium glutamate). 1. Aspartame and MSG stimulate the taste cells in the tongue, causing food flavor to be enhanced. 2. MSG and aspartame are the two leading causes of central nervous system damage in the United States according to http://www.naturalnews.com/039199_central_nervous_system_damage_msg.html 3. MSG is the leading cause of migraine headaches, which result from a blood vessel enlargement and the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around these vessels. B. To say fast food has a “nutritional value” is an oxymoron. 1. This food is grown with pesticides also growth hormones, and with produce that is GMO. 1. Fast food is high in sodium, the average adult needs to consume about 1200mg sodium per day.
