A neurosurgeon, by medical terms, is a physician who specializes in surgery on the brain and other parts of the nervous system. The field of pediatrics, by medical terms, is the field of medicine which is concerned with the health of infants, children and adolescents (months old to 18 years of age); their growth development; and their opportunity to achieve full potential as adults. A pediatric neurosurgeon is therefore a physician who specializes in surgery on the brain and all of the nervous system of infants up until the late teen years (age 18). Ben Soloman Carson is a pediatric neurosurgeon. He is a pediatric surgeon and a miracle worker. Dr. Ben Carson is a credible and the most unsurpassed pediatric neurosurgeon in the nation; he successfully separated Siamese twins that were connected at the dorsal of the head, achieved the first intra-uterine procedure to relieve pressure from a hydrocephalic (condition involving the enlargement of the head and the compressing of the brain) fetal twin’s brain, and the removal of an infants brain to stop seizures called a hemispherectomy. He is a very careful and caring person in his field and out. Carson is an idol to present and future pediatric neurosurgeons. His feats will change the course of the future for the field of pediatric neurosurgeons. To separate conjoined twins, the surgery contains long, involved, complex steps-every step being between one to five hours without the unplanned mishaps during the operation. It may be even more brutal a separation depending on where the twins are connected. The twins Carson and his team were helping were Craniopagus twins (connected Dorsal or rear union at the head) Patrick and Benjamin. Not only were Carson and the neurosurgeons attempting to separate their brains and cranium, but they had to create the right molding as to not exploit the brains.
