The Description of Anesthesia, It’s Effects, its Careers, and it’s Future By Cordell Jones

In 1591, a young mother was dragged from her home and taken away. Her mercy pleas were ignored, and she was thrown intro a pit and buried alive. What was this mother’s crime? She had given birth to twin sons, and during her labor she had asked for some pain relief. The Church regarded the pain of childbirth as a punishment justly inflicted by God. The ultimate intent of her persecution was to discourage other women from making the same decision. You can tell today’s society is less diluted by medicine and anesthesia. Now if someone asks for pain relief they won’t get put in a pit and left to die, obviously. Now if you are going into a surgery an anesthesiologist will inject some type of anesthetic to sedate you. Also nowadays you can just go to any regular drug store and buy some Advil or Aleve to lessen moderate pain. Now in this paper it will be telling you the history of anesthesia, by who found it and when they found it. Then after that it will be telling you the progression of anesthesia, by how its better than the older anesthetics. Like it can now relieve stress, post procedure pain, and nausea, and can even block our memories of the events during a surgery. After this, it will be describing the characteristics of nerves, the different sections of the nervous system, and how nerves function in the human body. Then after that it will be describing the different nerves in the human body, like as mechanoreceptors, photoreceptors, thermoreceptors, and auditory receptors. Then after nerves, it will be describing to you the way anesthesia works in the body. First off by telling you the chemical compounds of anesthetics first with the older ones and then the modern ones. Then it will be defining how anesthesia affects the human body. After this it will be depicting when too much or too little amounts of anesthesia is used in a human body. Then lastly its will be specifying how anesthetics are dosed. Then after the depiction of how anesthesia works, it will be telling you how anesthetics affect other species, such as the canine species, the feline species, and the primate species. Then in the last section this paper will tell describe to you the future of anesthesia. First it will tell you the practice of induced comas. And lastly it will tell you the discovery of human hibernation. History of Anesthesia

Anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation. In medical terms, it’s the method of decreasing sensitivity to pain in a patient so that a surgery may be done. Anesthesia may be done without the loss of unconsciousness, or with partial or total loss of consciousness. (Science clarified, 2010)

Way for decreasing the feeling of pain during a surgery date back to ancient times. Before the discovery of items that made general anesthesia, patients needing surgery for an illness or an injury had to rely on alcohol. Opium (a natural narcotic taken from the opium poppy), or fumes from an anesthetic drenched cloth to lessen the pain of the operation. Often a group of men held the patient down during a surgery in case the opium or alcohol wore off. Under these conditions, many patients died from the pain of the surgery. (Science clarified, 2010) The gases nitrous oxide, ether, and chloroform were first used as anesthetics in the 19th century. (Science clarified, 2010) Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, was founded as an anesthetic by English chemist Humphry Davy (1791-1848) started to practice using nitrous oxide during tooth operations. In 1845, he attempted to show its pain blocking abilities to the public, but it was unsuccessful when he began to pull a tooth before the patient was fully anesthetized. Well the patient screamed from the agony, and as a result, 20 years passed before nitrous oxide was accepted...
